Digital Tools and Services

CUNY and BMCC make various tools and services available to faculty, students, and staff. Below are some of the most used and requested. 

 

Email

Faculty and students are strongly encouraged to check their BMCC email on a regular basis, especially in the event of course disruption. Email access information, as well as other support, can be found at this BMCC Email page.

Blackboard

Review the Blackboard page on this site to learn how to move your course materials online and communicate with your students through Blackboard. Log in with your CUNYfirst account (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu).

Web Conferencing

Zoom

Review the Zoom Web Conferencing page on this site to learn how you can connect with students for online class meetings, office hours, or group activities. A free account allows for meetings with up to 100 participants for up to 40 minutes per meeting.

Blackboard Collaborate

Blackboard Collaborate is a web conferencing/webinar platform designed for use in online teaching. Course rooms include a collaborative whiteboard tool that allows you to interact with peers and your instructor in real time, as well as file (for example, PowerPoint slides) and screen sharing.

Webex

CUNY has arranged for Cisco Webex to provide Webex Meeting and Teams licenses to all students, faculty and staff to help with distant learning and stay in touch. Click here for a Quick Start Guide.


BMCC OpenLab

BMCC OpenLab is an online community where you can set up a space to share materials and communicate with students. Log in with your BMCC account. Faculty and staff will need a participant code, which you can receive by emailing openlab@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Dropbox

CUNY provides Dropbox and Dropbox Paper to all active CUNY students, faculty and administrative staff. You can use these tools to store and access files from different devices, share files, and collaborate. Claim your CUNY Dropbox account here using your CUNYfirst login (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu). For more information about CUNY Dropbox accounts see the About CUNY Dropbox page. Microsoft Office 365

Free to all CUNY students, provides access to Office 365 online apps and services, as well as the option to download Microsoft Office Suite directly from your CUNY email account. Log in to Microsoft Office 365 with your CUNYfirst login (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu) to access a wide range of Microsoft products. For example, Word for word processing, Excel for spreadsheets, PowerPoint for slides, and OneDrive for file sharing. Use the "Install Office" drop-down in the upper-right to install Office 365 applications to your computer. Mobile apps are also available for Apple and Android mobile devices. The first time you run the apps you will need to enter your CUNYfirst log-in information.


Free Online Resources for Distance Learning

As campuses and libraries all over the United States close to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, publishers and online vendors are teaming up to bring free access to research materials and e-books to students and instructors impacted by the closures.

Google Drive

Create a free Google account for 15 GB of free storage and for access to Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Forms. These tools allow you to create collaborative documents and projects that get updated in real-time.

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning is an online educational platform that hosts tons of 'how to videos' on various topics. You and your students have FREE access courtesy of BMCC. Watch this video to learn how to activate and access your account.  

Hotspot Internet Access from Your Phone
