BMCC Hosts STEM Fest
More than 100 BMCC students attended the inaugural BMCC STEM Fest on Nov. 18. The event, held in the Richard Harris Terrace, gave students an opportunity to learn about research programs offered through CRSP, LSAMP, CSTEP, POISE and the BMCC Foundation Fund. Student poster presentations were featured along with laboratory tours. Faculty researchers in the STEM fields were also available to speak with students about their work, including BMCC science professor Chiaki Yanagisawa, who has been part of several international research teams investigating sub-atomic particles known as neutrinos for the last 20 years. More recently, Yanagisawa was a member of a research team that was led by Takaaki Ajita of the University of Tokyo, who was awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize for Physics. Ajita was a co-winner of the Nobel prize along with Professor Arthur McDonald of Queen's University, Canada. Students interested in pursuing STEM research should contact Dr. Helene Bach by email at hbach@bmcc.cuny.edu. |
