BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center Opens Family Theater Series

BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center (BMCC/TPAC), the longest operating performance venue in Lower Manhattan, proudly presents the next event in the 2015-2016 Family Series Season: The Berenstain Bears LIVE! in Family Matters, The Musical, on Saturday, November 14 at 1:30 p.m.

The Berenstain Bears LIVE! is part of BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center’s 2015-2016 Family Theater Season, featuring plays, musicals, puppetry, concerts and dance for all ages.

A beloved children’s classic

Stan and Jan Berenstain originally published The Berenstain Bears in 1974 and have gone on to publish over 300 books as well as create three animated television series, an upcoming feature-length movie, and now a brand new musical.

Approved by the authors themselves, The Berenstain Bears LIVE! in Family Matters, the Musical is an adaptation of three of The Berenstain Bears’ most beloved books: The Berenstain Bears Learn About Strangers, The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food, and The Berenstain Bears’ Trouble at School.

Appropriate for Mamas, Papas, and Young Cubs of all ages, in this live musical production filled with fun songs and dancing, the Berenstain Bears learn important life lessons. Using the iconic stories and imagery of the books, Bear Country comes to life on stage and is perfect for girls and boys ages three and up.

Henry & Mudge, by Theatreworks USA: Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.; $25. This TheatreworksUSA musical tells the story of Henry and his 182-pound canine buddy, Mudge. It is based on the best-selling series of books by Cynthia Rylant and is perfect for kids age three and up.

Alice in Wonderland by Pushcart Players: Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 1:30PM; $25. Filled with Lewis Carroll’s pure nonsense and madcap characters, this intriguing tale about a curious and proactive young girl has enchanted readers for many generations and is loved by children age four and up. 

Dr. Seuss’s Cat in the Hat by Childsplay, Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.; $25. From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears at their door, Sally and her brother know that the Cat in the Hat is the most mischievous cat they will ever meet. For decades he has delighed children age three and up.

Goodnight Moon & the Runaway Bunny by Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia: Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.; $25. Goodnight Moon is a celebration of familiar nighttime rituals, while The Runaway Bunny’s pretend tale of leaving home evokes reassuring responses from his loving mum. The stories speak to children age three and up.   

Junie B.’s Essential Survival Guide to School by TheatreworksUSA: Sunday, May 22, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.; $25. Now that Junie B. Jones has been going to school for over one-and-a-half years, who better to write the book on EVERYTHING you need to know? This all-new musical adventure is based on Barbara Park’s popular book and is for children age four and up.

Charlotte’s Web by Theatreworks USA, Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 1:30PM; $25. Theatreworks’ production of Charlotte’s Web is based on E.B. White’s loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte, and is geared toward children age five and up.
