Join us for a celebration kicking off Women’s Herstory Month with our them “Looking Back, Moving Forward: Women and their Right to Vote” observing 100 years of women’s suffrage.
The event will have a keynote by Dr Ameena Ali, UN Women-Gambia Special Envoy to Maternal Health. There will be a powerful panel with guests Reshma Patel, Lisa Daniell, and Ursula Bustillos Daza.
There will also be music, a short performance, lunch and refreshments.
About the Speakers:
Dr. Ameena Ali is a Naturopathic Doctor specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology; she has been in Organic Medicine, Home-birthing and the Maternal Education of Women for the last 29 years. In 2018, she was appointed as a Special Envoy to UN Women Gambia with an accepted NGO/CSO Dossier for Rural Women’s Maternal Healthcare Access and offers solutions for our elders to be able to age-in-place, through her efforts as a member of The Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People. Dr. Ali is the 2019 US Representative for the International Model UN Association and the newest member to the International Human Rights Commission in Geneva where she serves unrecognized Sovereign Tribes, undocumented International Cultures, Stateless, Landless and countless oppressed and displaced Indigenous People around the world.
Reshma Patel: After a long career in public finance, Reshma Patel is now working on economic development projects and helps social impact focused organizations implement technology solutions. She promotes civic engagement as a volunteer with the League of Women Voters NYC where she helps run the Speaker’s Bureau.
Lisa Daniell: Lisa Daniell is the Operations Manager for Women’s Press Collective (WPC), an all-volunteer membership association organizing for independent community-based media, and has been a full-time professional volunteer organizer with WPC since August 1994.
Ursula Bustillos Daza: She is the founder of the sustainable multidisciplinary think tank Portal Urbano, establishing platforms in studios, homes, and later in cultural centers and universities for people to share knowledge and learn from one another.
