illlustration of women of different cultures

Wonder Woman, perhaps the most recognizable female superhero debuted in 1941, barely 20 years after (primarily white) women gained the right to vote in all elections the U.S. Wonder Woman is undergoing a renaissance in the past few years; comic book fans as well as the general public have “voted” for her active inclusion in the DC cinematic universe, propelling the 2017 film into a huge success and laying the groundwork for the upcoming 2020 sequel.
