Here are some frequently asked questions and answers about the BMCC Nursing program.
Visit Admissions. This link will take you directly to the CUNY online application process. As of fall 2010, students seeking a nursing degree at BMCC will be admitted into the college as an Undeclared Health student. After completing the pre-requisite courses for nursing admission Undeclared Health (UDH) students can apply for the Nursing Program. The college does not guarantee admission into its nursing program. If this is your first time going to college, apply as freshmen. If you have a degree or have taken courses at another college or university, apply as a transfer student and send your official transcript(s) to the address that is on the online application to be evaluated for possible transfer credits.
No. The Nursing Department does not offer preadmission transcript evaluation. However, after your credits have been officially transferred, the Nursing Academic Advisor will review your transcript(s).
To apply for the nursing program, currently enrolled BMCC students must make an appointment to meet with the Academic Advisor in the nursing department during Early Academic Advisement starting in October to apply for the Spring; or starting in March to apply for the Fall. Transfer students must bring a copy of their transcript(s) when applying for admission into the nursing program.
FOR THE DAY PROGRAM:
All Undeclared Health (UDH) students who have completed or are completing all the required pre-requisite courses in the Fall are eligible to take the Kaplan Admission Test in the Fall and apply for entry into the Day Nursing Program for the Spring. However, please be advised that the Science section of the Kaplan Admission Test measures knowledge of Physiology that is taught in BIO 426. Therefore, it is highly recommended that students complete BIO 426 prior to taking the Kaplan Admission Test.

FOR THE PART-TIME EVENING/WEEKEND (SATURDAY) PROGRAM:
All Undeclared Health (UDH) students who are employed full-time during the day and have completed the four required pre-requisite courses, plus BIO 426, BIO 420, PSY 240 or SOC 100 during the Fall or the Spring semester may apply for admission into the part-time Evening/Weekend (Saturday) Program.
All Undeclared Health (UDH) students who are employed full-time during the day and have completed the four required pre-requisite courses plus all of the other required courses for admission into the part-time Evening/Weekend (Saturday) Program during Summer Session1 may apply for admission into the part-time Evening/Weekend (Saturday) Program in the Spring for the Fall semester.
Yes! You are required to take the Kaplan Admission Test at BMCC. Kaplan Admission Test scores from other nursing schools will not be accepted. This examination may be taken for a maximum of two times but NOT in the same semester.
To reserve a seat for the Kaplan Admission Test, eligible BMCC students MUST:
Fill-out an application for the Nursing Program with the Academic Advisor during Early Academic Advisement in the Spring and the Fall semester.

The college does not maintain a waiting list for admission into the nursing program. Some students have found it necessary to apply two or three times before being admitted to the nursing program. However, other eligible students, but with a lower Admission test score, a lower GPA in the four required pre-requisite courses and a lower overall GPA have not been admitted in successive years.
Please be aware that Undeclared Health (UDH) students who have not been admitted into the nursing program by the completion of the 30th credit will be required to select another major. If you receive financial aid and do not change your major by the 30th credit, there may be a disruption in your financial aid award.
Students are selected for admission into the Nursing Program based on their combined overall average in the Kaplan Admission Test, their GPA in the four required pre-requisite courses (ENG 101, PSY 100, MAT 104, and BIO 425), and their overall GPA for courses applicable to the nursing curriculum.ur major by the 30th credit, there may be a disruption in your financial aid award.
All nursing courses are offered in the spring and fall semesters.
No. You must first complete the pre-requisite courses (ENG 101, PSY 100, MAT 104, and BIO 425) plus BIO 426 and pass the Kaplan Admission Test. You must take MAT 104 at BMCC: No other Math course can be substituted for this class.
Yes. We offer a part-time Evening/Weekend (Saturday) Nursing Program for students who work full-time during the day. All evening nursing classes meet two evenings a week from 5:45PM to 9:15PM and the clinical is on Saturday from 8AM to 4PM. After you have completed all pre-requisite courses and are admitted into the program, it will take two years to complete the Day or Evening/Weekend (Saturday) Nursing Program.
CHE 121, as required by the Science Department, is a prerequisite for BIO425, BIO 426, and BIO 420 for all students in the nursing program.
If you earn a grade of less than “C” in any of the required pre-requisite courses you are not eligible to apply to the BMCC Nursing Program.

Yes. Nursing practice requires core competencies; therefore all nursing students are required to meet the following technical standards for admission, progression, and graduation from BMCC Nursing Program.
