The ESL Lab provides free in-person English language and academic writing tutoring at BMCC (Room S-510J), and also online tutoring on the Upswing learning platform, for multilingual/ESL students registered for ESL, ENG 101, CRT 100.6, and LIN 100.6 courses. Use your BMCC student email username and password to log in. Here are instructions to help you use the new online system.
Sign up for tutoring
Use this form to sign up for a repeating weekly tutoring appointment, to meet with the same tutor each week at the same time. Students who register for tutoring and work with tutors outside of class tend to be more successful and advance faster than students who don’t take advantage of this free service.
The ESL Lab tutors support and help multilingual students to improve English language, critical thinking, active effective drafting/writing/revising, and proofreading skills. Tutors will help students better understand and master academic writing in English.
Faculty
ESL Lab staff also collaborate with Academic Literacy and Linguistics and English faculty as well as other departments, academic support services or individual faculty/staff interested in learning more about working with multilingual students, to facilitate learning and improve writing pedagogy in the classroom.
