SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is one of four such campuses within the 64 unit State University of New York. Located on an urban campus in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn,  SUNY Downstate comprises  of the  College of MedicineSchool of Health ProfessionsCollege of NursingSchool of Graduate StudiesSchool of Public Health, and University Hospital of Brooklyn. It also includes a major research center and the University Hospital of Brooklyn.

Over 1800 students pursue certificates, Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Doctoral degrees in Physical Therapy (BS/DPT), Public Health (Dr.PH), and Nursing Practice (DNP); Ph.D. degrees in: Molecular and Cellular Biology, Neural and Behavioral Science, and Biomedical Engineering; M.D. degrees (MD, MD/PhD, MD/MPH)
