Kamil Lewis, AMFT & Sex Therapist (Pronouns: She/Her)
Kamil Lewis (she/her) is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with a master’s degree in clinical psychology. She works in private practice as a sex therapist and also works with clients who experience chronic pain. Kamil incorporates sex positivity and social consciousness in her work, acknowledging the significant role shame and isolation play in mental health concerns. Our society often suggests that we struggle in isolation and ignore our most natural human impulse to connect to and support one another. For Kamil, therapy serves as a way to communicate with others and break down that isolation. Kamil feels as though we are all complex people, and she recognizes the intricacy of how the layers of who we are, intersect, overlap, and sometimes even conflict. Kamil’s motivation for getting into mental health was to be a resource for Black folks and other groups that have been oppressed. She has a particular passion for working with Black women who may find themselves struggling to feel heard, represented, and navigate intimacy. She recognizes pleasure as resistance and a way to combat detrimental systems such as white supremacy, heteronormativity, and capitalism. Kamil’s work centers on empowerment, destigmatizing sex, and making space for joy and pleasure. By integrating somatic (body-based) and mindfulness techniques, Kamil helps clients identify physical sensations and their underlying emotions. She integrates the mind, body, and community to cultivate a holistic approach to mental health.
