Dear students,
Hello there, how are you today? I want to be the President of your Student Government Association. Why? Because I want to be a representative of all the BMCC students out there and I want to be the person whose voice is being heard. I want to make a difference through SGA, becoming the President and providing the exact service and leadership as needed.
As you read the intro, I want you to process a question for me by stating a crucial point in our life. “What is our purpose?”
As a child born in a third world country like Bangladesh, I grew up with an identity crisis as I had to continuously suppress my thoughts, opinions, and judgments yet tell you one thing I am resilient, and I have learned to fight for what is needed to be heard till the end. It was a fight that I think we have to put on, more or less, in our life. So, if you ask me what my purpose is, I will tell you, it is to serve. It is to be heard; it is to be the voice of the thousands who were forced to be silent. As I know how it felt to be not heard and live with that, I knew I wanted to serve, I wanted to lead. As I was determined to serve, I didn’t want to hold back.
I moved to this country to finish high school and looked for an opportunity to serve and as a result, I was elected as the Vice President of Key Club (an international community service group). I am currently a mentor in the IMPACT program and helping other students. I stand for prioritizing what is important and as the President of SGA my priorities will be focused on: mental health, communication building and expanding the club funds, flexibility in all student life, strengthening the relationship between student and faculty, building an internal strong network for BMCC students through active, open and easy access of virtual world and increasing graduation rates also.
SGA is my platform to show my respect and work towards things I am really passionate about. I realized becoming the President/representative of the students, listening to their needs and acting on them is the easiest job one can ever do yet can get the most out of it. By leading the position I want to make a difference and make a stronger impact among every student and staff. Thank you.
