My name is Ivanoba Castillo, and I am running for Treasurer in the 2021-2022 Student Government Association. I am a second semester student here at BMCC and in college. That’s right….. I started college in the middle of the pandemic. Which means I have never taken a class on campus. Pretty crazy, yet believable right?
You might ask yourself, how can someone who doesn’t even know our school, represent us? Well, all I have to say to that is, it is so much more than just setting foot and being present on campus in order to represent a population. True representation is about being living proof of how we feel as a community of students. Knowing how students feel and struggle in the mist of this pandemic is a clear example of this. Thus, this is why I want to focus on and advocate on bettering online classes for our students here at BMCC.
I believe that being a Treasurer also entails a lot of responsibility outside of representing the community. You should vote for someone who is dedicated and responsible. You should trust the candidate to make the right decision with major moves like funds for clubs and events. I can prove to be that candidate for you all for I do not hold any biases but more so urge for diversity. In fact, I advocate for more student activity even if it’s virtual. I want students to feel inclusive with BMCC even from a distance.
