Emily Thomason

EmilyFor Senator • Voices of Change

My name is Emily Thomason and I am running for a Student Senator position in order to advocate for you and your values as a student at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. It is my third semester as a Liberal Arts major at BMCC, however, I intend to transfer into an International Relations program as a result of my growing commitment to diplomacy, equity in foreign affairs, and global collaboration.

I have an abundance of experience in leadership positions, including but not limited to participation in the Civic Leadership Program, my position as the Vice President of Sisterhood Society, the responsibilities associated with my role as BMCC’s Cross-Cultural Manager for the Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge, and my experience as a legislative intern with the Vermont State Assembly. I’ve even had the privilege of meeting with New York State assembly members and staff in an effort to maintain BMCC’s general budget and monetary allocations for crucial programs such as ASAP and Child Care Services amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is precisely because of these experiences that I feel I am qualified to represent you, not only as a member of the collective body, but as an individual. I am well-acquainted with the in’s and out’s of the legislative process and I am familiar with my strengths as a leader and a peer. Some of you will identify with my narrative: BMCC has afforded me the opportunity to pursue a higher education where I otherwise may not have been able to. Regardless of where we’ve been or who we are, we’ve all ended up here as unified members of the Panther community and I hope to cultivate an environment in which the same support and advocacy I have received is offered to everyone.

My goal is to ensure that every voice is heard and accounted for with your best possible interests in mind. Thus, I appeal to you: if you would like to see an accessible, professional, enthusiastic, understanding candidate elected to the Student Senate, vote for Emily Thomason. I look forward to the opportunity to represent you!
