For Senator • Voices of Change
Hi everyone, Rayon Chan is my name. I was born and raised in Guyana, South America’s only English-speaking nation. I moved to New York to further my education a few years ago because I was excited about my studies. This is, however, my second semester at BMCC, and I am pursuing an Accounting degree. So far, it has been a fantastic experience at BMCC; many of us consider it home, and I am one of them. I am currently a member of the Dreamers Council at BMCC, as well as a member of the Accounting Club, ASPA programming, and an Alumni student, among other clubs.
In contrast, for the upcoming fall semester, I am vying for a senator spot in the Student Government Association (SGA). I am running for this role because I realized the SGA was the driving force behind my success at BMCC. I believe that everybody deserves to have their say. At BMCC, every student club is expected to uphold the rights of all individuals. Discrimination based on color, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual preference, or gender should be prohibited because we are all one people and one country under God’s rule. I will be a member of the Student Government Association (SGA), which is open to all proposals and represents all the students’ needs to the administration. As a Senator, I will work to ensure that all students’ views are heard by allowing them to share their thoughts and feelings. I will do everything in my power to serve students on all sides and to help make BMCC a fantastic college experience.
It would be a great pleasure for me to be a member of the SGA, working with these amazing students who want to make the transition to college a smooth one for their peers. It would be a privilege for me to do this by serving as a student representative, as this will increase student engagement and allow me to respond to their needs in the best way possible. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
