The goal of STEM-Faculty Interest Group is to foster teaching and research across the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. As the economy grows, more STEM-related jobs are being created. Skilled workers are needed for the future. Not only do we need to recruit more STEM-major students, we need to successfully retain them. How should we do to attract students into STEM majors? How can we prepare students for future STEM careers? Studies show that students’ participation in hands-on research activities greatly increases their interest and future success in their preparation for STEM fields.
In the STEM-FIG, we will meet monthly to share common interests amongst the faculty in academic and pedagogical research, and the best practice in the disciplines. We will host research seminars, discuss students’ research experiences, classroom management, as well as other related topics.
