This presentation takes a critical look at the character Annalise Keeting, played by Viola Davis, in the new primetime drama “How to Get Away With Murder.” More specifically, how Davis’ character challenges the stereotypes of Black women in popular culture and the dominant ideals of beauty that are mainstay in primetime television. Considering the age, skin tone, and sex appeal that Davis’ character exhibits, this paper will provide new insight into black feminist thought and the image of Black women in popular culture.
