The college offers grants annually to faculty to support their teaching and research. A call for proposals is generally issued in fall or winter for spring awards.
As part of BMCC’s efforts to support students during the Spring 2020 shift to remote learning, we are identifying all available funds that can be redirected to student emergency support. In addition, we understand that some faculty are not able to engage in their normal scholarly and creative activities without access to laboratories, research subjects, or live audiences.
With these conditions in mind, we have decided to suspend the 2020-21 round of Faculty Publication Grants, which is funded from internal BMCC sources.
Faculty Publication Grant
The Faculty Publication Grant is coordinated by Faculty Affairs to support tenured faculty members in bringing well-developed projects to fruition, including peer-reviewed scholarly manuscripts and creative work. This grant award requires that projects will be completed and submitted to a refereed scholarly venue by the end of the funding period. Up to 15 awards will be granted. Full-time tenured faculty may request summer salary or reassigned time, or other project expenses, up to a $5,000 limit. A call for proposals is generally distributed in the spring, and grantees are announced in the spring for projects the following academic year. This opportunity is closed for 2020-21.
Faculty Development Grant
The Faculty Development Grant was established in the 1990s at the initiative of the Faculty Development Committee of the BMCC Academic Senate. It is organized and administered by the Faculty Development Committee and funded by the Office of Academic Affairs. Its purpose is to support full-time faculty members in their scholarly and creative activity.
Full-time faculty throughout the college are encouraged to apply. Faculty may apply as individuals or as a team. The maximum grant award is $5,000 and a maximum of twelve grants will be awarded. Full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty may request summer salary or reassigned time, or other project expenses, up to a $5,000 limit. A call for proposals is generally distributed in the fall, and grantees are announced in the spring for projects the following academic year. This opportunity is closed for 2020-21.
CUNY Grants
Since 2006, the Community College Research Grant Program has funded collaborative, interdisciplinary, and undergraduate research projects resulting in faculty and student development. For the 2020 competition, the CCRG program is offering grants on two tracks: the Collaborative Research Incentive Grant and the Mentored Undergraduate Research Grant.
