1. Student Volunteer Form

All students who wish to participate in faculty guided research must complete and submit a student volunteer form. Volunteer Forms must be submitted to Dr. Ramakrishnan.

2. Laboratory Safety Orientation

Students wishing to participate in laboratory research must complete a Laboratory Safety Orientation with the research core laboratory manager. Laboratory Safety Orientations are given each semester.

If you are a student participating in a research program or a faculty member that would like your class to complete a lab safety training, contact Aned Buczynski-Kos to attend an upcoming laboratory safety orientation.

Once completed, students must take and pass the BMCC Core Laboratory Safety Review Quiz.

3. CITI Training

The City University of New York requires all researchers, including faculty, staff and student researchers to complete the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI)compliance courses for the Responsible Conduct of Research and the Protection of Human Subjects Research (only for human subjects studies).

All Faculty Researchers utilizing the Borough of Manhattan Community College Research Core Facilities (Science Wet Labs and SSRL) must complete the Faculty Research Form. You may resubmit this form at any time to update your information.

Certificate of Fitness for Chemical Laboratories (C-14)

All research laboratories containing toxic materials require an individual holding a Certificate of Fitness for Chemical Laboratories to be present at all times during operation.

Applicant Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Read the Notice of Exam for the C of F for the Supervision of Chemical Laboratories (C-14).
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from BMCC, on the BMCC letterhead, containing your full name and the applicant’s experience related to the Certificate of Fitness.
  • Provide two forms of photo identification, such as a State-issued Driver’s License or Non-Driver’s License or a passport.
  • Once the applicant meets education, training qualifications, and pre-requisites the applicant must submit their information and electronic copies of the documents (not to exceed 10mb) outlined below:
    • Applicant’s name, height, weight, mailing address and work address.
    • Applicant Photo (2×2 square-sized color head shot) in .gif, .jpeg, .jpg, .tiff format.
    • Employee Affirmation Form signed by the applicant.
