Fall 2021 update: Please read this Fall Program 2021 letter to parents from our director regarding current COVID protocols.
Upward Bound is a free program for eligible high school students. At Borough of Manhattan Community College’s (BMCC) Upward Bound Project, students receive individualized learning enrichment and academic instruction as well as the opportunity to participate in educational, cultural, and social activities.
Classes and Workshops
Students in the Upward Bound program attend several classes a week after their regular high school classes. In these small group settings, we help students with any difficulties they are having in their high school courses. In addition to academic help, we provide workshops in subjects such as financial literacy, scholarships, interviews, and more.
Events
Students that attend Upward Bound classes regularly and follow the program rules are eligible to participate in special events. They will be able to visit museums, attend Broadway shows, camping retreats, restaurants and other local venues to gain background that will help them in college and at work.
College Tours
In addition to preparing academically for college, we take Upward Bound students to visit various colleges in New York and other nearby states. The classes we offer are SAT prep, Regents review (English, Math, Science) and other academic tutoring to help Upward Bound students prepare to apply to colleges. We also help students with financial aid applications and course selection when they are applying to colleges.
