Professor Horace Brockington has secured an outstanding collection of African-American paintings and sculptures that will be displayed during February and into March. The first exhibit is titled “History takes Place” and includes 10 pieces that have been generously loaned to the College from the private collection of Mr. Tom Burrell. They have been installed in the newly renovated Breezeway, located on the second floor of the 199 Chambers Street Building.
An opening reception is scheduled Tuesday, February 25, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to celebrate the works.
The sculptures, which will be displayed in the A. Philip Randolph Memorial Library, are the creation of Dr. Lorenzo Pace, the artist commissioned to build “Triumph of the Human Spirit”, which is the memorial piece at the African Burial Grounds.

– Romare Bearden
– Hale Woodruff
– Gordon Parks
– Sam Gilliam
– Ed Clark (prints)
An important addendum to this information is that these works come from African American collectors. The works will be on display from Tuesday, February 18 through Friday, March 6, in both the Breezeway and the library.
