Artist’s Statement:
In this dark season, I’m proud to share my luminous new window installation curated by Cheryl McGinnis at the iconic Flatiron Building in Manhattan. Rise Above presents five winged female figures in wire mesh—drawings in space—that explore human-bird personae. Inspired by myths from many world cultures, these images of the soul acknowledge dualities: strength and subtlety, movement and stability, ancient and contemporary, earth and sky.
This public installation is on view at all hours and in varied lighting, with especially dramatic effects after dark.
Thursday evenings at the Flatiron
Sarah Haviland will be available at the Flatiron from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursdays during the exhibit, through March 17. The work is seen from the sidewalks of 5th Ave. & Broadway at 23rd St. It’s a busy, chilly street corner in winter, but there are many bars and restaurants nearby. Please email Sarah Haviland or Cheryl McGinnis to arrange appointments: cherylmcginnisgallery@gmail.com.
