BMCC students, faculty, alumni and donors are invited to meet Dr. John C. Williams, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on December 13, at 11 a.m., in Fiterman Hall, 13th floor.
The lecture topic is “Topics in Monetary Policy”
John C. Williams, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, previously served as the President and CEO of the San Francisco Fed, and before that, he was the Director of Research of the San Francisco Fed. Mr. Williams began his career as an economist at the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors. He also served as a senior economist in the White House Council of Economic Advisers and as a lecturer at Stanford. Mr. Williams holds a Ph.D. in economics from Stanford, an M.S. degree from the London School of Economics, and an A.B. from UC Berkeley.
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, or New York Fed, has several unique responsibilities within the Federal Reserve System. In addition to those it shares in common with the other Reserve Banks, the New York Fed’s responsibilities include conducting open market and international operations, and storing monetary gold for foreign central banks, governments and international agencies. As President of the New York Fed, Mr. Williams occupies a permanent seat as the Vice Chair of the Federal Open Market Committee, the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy-making body.
Mr. Williams’ lecture will provide an extraordinary opportunity for students to gain insight into monetary policymaking, the U.S. central banking system and a wide range of issues that affect our country and the world. The lecture will be followed by a question and answer session.
There will also be a livestream of this event.
Each year, during the fall semester, a team of students participates in the College Fed Challenge, an academic competition hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
