Video and Discussion: Contextualizing the Impact of 9/11 on Policing and First Responders’ Health with Professor Jason Ostrowe

This year marks 20 years since 9/11 and we continue to feel and analyze the impact. Criminal Justice Professor Jason W. Ostrowe, a former NYPD officer and representative to the World Trade Center Program, Scientific/Technical Advisory Committee, will present the documentary “Twin Towers” and lead a discussion of 9/11’s impact on policing and the health of 9/11 first responders.

Prior to arriving at BMCC in 2016 as a full-time faculty member, Ostrowe was a member of the NYPD and on patrol in the Midtown North Precinct when the World Trade Center was attacked. Both during 9/11 and for many months thereafter, Ostrowe served in rescue operations, recovery efforts, victim transportation and security. As a Criminal Justice faculty member, Ostrowe shares his experiences of 9/11 to help students contextualize its impact on policing and the broader criminal justice system in the 21^st century.
