Hispanic Heritage Month: Haiti and Her Stories – A Conversation with Dr. Yveline Alexis

Dr. Yveline Alexis (Oberlin College) will give a virtual discussion based off her newly released book, Haiti Fights Back: The Life and Legacy of Charlemagne Péralte (2021). To make the event more interactive, the format will include a planned questions and answer session, where the host, Dr. RaShelle Peck (BMCC) will pose questions to Dr. Alexis about:

1) Haiti today
2) the study of history
3) the importance of the archives
4) why Haiti is important in the study of Hispanic Studies
5) why Charlemagne Péralte is an important figure

The moderator, Professor Peck, will then field questions from the audience. This talk will appeal to students taking history courses, those celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, as well as those interested in learning more about Haiti.
