Stop by for what promises to be a fabulous concert of Latin Jazz by talented BMCC students.
Latin Jazz combines percussion and Cuban rhythms, creating a style of music that is very easy to dance to. In the 1940s the big bands of Dizzy Gillespie and Machito were pioneers of this style of music. More recently the bands of Tito Puente and Poncho Sanchez have continued the Latin jazz tradition. Latin jazz is also sometimes called Afro-Cuban jazz, a term preferred by Mario Bauza and Ray Barretto.
