The Department of Social Sciences, Human Services, and Criminal Justice, invites the BMCC community to a talk and virtual tour of the Sure We Can Education Center.
Through discussion and a virtual tour of Sure We Can‘s unique facility, we will explore from the granular experience of a single canner in New York City, and work from there to discuss the NY State Returnable Container Act, or Bottle Bill, extended producer responsibility (EPR), the notion of a circular economy, and how values of social as well as material sustainability can help pave the way forward for our climate and society in crises.
Ryan Castalia is an artist and advocate who currently serves as Executive Director of Sure We Can Education Center, NYC’s only nonprofit redemption center. His work spans performance art, activism, community organizing, and project development to pursue the aim of cultivating compassion, awareness, and creativity, in venues ranging from US Census outreach programs and community development and relief, to site-specific works of experimental theatre.
