The Department of Business Management invites you to a discussion about Stoicism: A Way of Life for the 21st Century with Professor Massimo Pigliucci.
Stoicism is an Hellenistic philosophy established by Zeno of Cyprus 24 centuries ago. And yet, it has become increasingly popular in recent times, with practitioners adopting both Stoic goals and practices in order to live a better life. One reason Stoicism resonates with us denizens of the 21st century is because it calls for a simpler and more meaningful life. Another is because its techniques and general understanding of human psychology are confirmed and expanded on by modern cognitive science. In this talk we will explore the basics of Stoic theory and practice, and why they make sense in light of the scientific view of the world.
