The BMCC community is invited to meet Major General Jai Shanker Menon, Director, United Nations Peacekeeping Strategic Partnership, Office of the Under-Secretary-General (OUSG), Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), United Nations Headquarters, New York who will speak about United Nations Peacekeeping: New Initiatives and Challenges. You are invited to come learn about the role of peacekeepers and peacekeeping operations, what strategies are adopted, how are they implemented and if interested how you can get involved.
The event is free and all BMCC students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.

About Major General Jai Shanker Menon
Director, United Nations Office for Peacekeeping Strategic Partnership
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres on 6 June 2018 appointed Major General Jai Shanker Menon of India as the Director of the Office for Peacekeeping Strategic Partnerships (OPSP).
The new Director of OPSP retired from active service in the Indian Army following a distinguished 42-year career. He brings to his new position extensive command experience and knowledge of peacekeeping affairs at the national and international levels. His previous assignments with the Indian Army included Additional Director General Equipment Management, General Officer Commanding an Infantry Division, Commandant of the Regimental Training Centre, Brigade Commander and Battalion Commander.
Major General Menon’s international experience included service as Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) from 2016 to 2017, as a Military Observer with the United Nations Operation in Mozambique in 1993, and with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) from 2007 to 2009.
The holder of a Master of Management Studies degree from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India, Major General Menon also earned a Master of Defense Studies degree from Madras University in Chennai, India, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi, India. He is also a graduate of India’s National Defense Academy in Khadakvasla, Army War College in Mhow, Defense Services Staff College in Wellington, and the College of Defense Management in Secunderabad.
