BMCC students learned about the intersections of race, class, and gender when they studied about J. Marion Sims, called by some ‘the father of gynecology’ for his experiments on enslaved and Irish immigrant women without consent or anesthesia in the 19th century. They then created images using Photoshop and augmented reality technology for the pedestal in place of Sims’ statue that has been removed.
This student and faculty panel will describe what they learned and how they made our 3D images to honor the all but forgotten women.
