I am a native New Yorker, who was raised in Washington Heights. I attended public schools and received a BA (English) from Hofstra University, an MA (English and American Literature) from New York University (where I also worked on but did not complete a PhD) and an MA (Educational Psychology–Adult Literacy) from Teachers College/Columbia University.
I worked for 20 years in publishing as a reference book editor. I was the Editor in Chief of The World Almanac and Book of Facts for 10 years, and held the same title at Consumer Reports Books.
After leaving publishing, I became the Educational Coordinator for The Educational Alliance’s substance abuse recovery program.
Throughout, I taught as an adjunct at City College, Yeshiva University and at BMCC, where I am now a full-time lecturer. I continue to be an adjunct lecturer at CCNY where I teach a variety of literature classes.

Courses Taught
- This advanced reading course is designed to help students master a full range of college-level reading and related skills, including critical comprehension, vocabulary, writing, flexible rates of reading, and study strategies. A variety of college-level materials is used.
- Critical Thinking (Same as CRT 100) is designed to develop the mind and help students learn to think clearly and effectively. Through substantive readings, structured writing assignments and ongoing discussions, students will examine concrete examples from their own experience and readings and contemporary issues in the media to learn how to analyze issues, solve problems, and make informed decisions in their academic, professional, and personal lives.
