When your parents receive the Direct PLUS Loan, they will be contacted by the loan servicer who will provide regular updates on the status of the loan and information on how and when to repay it.Your parents will work out with the loan servicer a repayment plan that works best for them, choosing from either the Standard, Extended or Graduated Repayment Plan options (please refer to the Direct Subsidized Loan section of this website for a description of the various repayment plan options). Note that the Income Contingent Repayment Plan is not offered to parent borrowers.
Your parents will be given the choice of making payments online, sending payments to the loan servicer by check or having the monthly amount automatically debited from their bank account.
To find out information about their loan servicer or to have questions about their loan answered, your parents can look up their federal student loan history through the U.S. Department of Education’s National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) website.
You and your parents may want to read the U.S. Dept of Education’s Your Federal Student Loans for more detailed information about repayment options.
Use the U.S. Department of Education’s interactive Repayment Calculator to compare the estimated amount of your monthly payments under the various Direct Loan repayment plans.
