Learning Assistance Programs (Tutoring)
The Learning Resource Center (LRC), the Writing Center, the Reading Lab, the Math Lab, and the English as a Second Language (ESL) Lab provide students with support services to strengthen academic skills and meet their learning needs.
Learning Resource Center
Online Tutoring
Online Tutoring is a virtual environment where students can meet with certified tutors. We offer online tutoring via the Upswing Online Tutoring platform.
Academic Coaching
Academic Coaching consists of personalized, one-on-one meetings with an academic coach that will help students identify their academic challenges and improve their academic performance. Academic Coaching is available on Zoom and Upswing. Please email us at AcademicCoaching@bmcc.cuny.edu to schedule an appointment.
Online Supplemental Instruction
Faculty members are including their Supplemental Instruction (SI) leader in whatever online tool they are using to deliver instruction. For example, if faculty members are using Blackboard, they can add the SI leader to their Blackboard page. Please contact the E-Learning center if you would like to add your SI leader to blackboard.
Online Services Orientations for Faculty
Utilizing this request form, faculty may sign up to have their class receive a brief online demo to our online academic support services.
Online Instructional Workshops and Resources
The LRC offers training and study skills workshops on MLA formatting in Microsoft Word, Using Pivot Tables in Microsoft Excel, Note-taking, Test-taking and Procrastination. Click HERE to register. Workshops are also available on Zoom.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Lab
The ESL Lab offers weekly tutoring sessions for all ESL courses in addition to walk-in tutoring and conversation groups.
Computer programs are available for practice in grammar, writing and speaking/listening. Books and audio CDs are available for use in the lab, and some books may be borrowed.

Math Lab
The Mathematics Lab currently provides online tutoring through Upswing Use your BMCC student email username and password to log in. Here are instructions to help you use the new online system.
The Math Lab offers online tutoring by registering for an appointment.
It is equipped with a collection of computer programs for various math courses, tutorial videos and worksheets to supplement classroom instruction. There are open lab hours for students to complete assignments, and to explore and practice computer skills related to their coursework.

Reading Lab
The Reading Lab helps students strengthen their reading ability and prepares them for the CUNY Assessment Test in Reading.
The Lab primarily assists students taking ACR 94 and ACR 95. The Lab provides students with computers, textbooks, teacher-prepared assignments and audio/video materials to help them develop and improve their reading performance.

Writing Center

The BMCC Writing Center teaches registered students to think critically, write actively, revise mindfully and proofread carefully. In addition, we provide support for faculty who are incorporating writing pedagogy into their curricula.
One-to-One Tutoring for Students
A sixty (60) minute, one on one tutorial with a writing professional is at the heart of our service. We teach students to develop, organize, draft, revise, and proofread their work.
