Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) is one of 10 colleges and universities nationwide to win the Virtual Innovation Award: Excellence in Delivering Virtual Student Services from NASPA, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
The award provides a total of $255,000 to 10 institutions of higher education demonstrating exemplar academic, financial and community-building services to students.
Of those 10 institutions, BMCC is one of the top three receiving $50,000 each for their holistic approach to virtual services. The other seven institutions each received $15,000.
The award not only highlights the work of the institutions but will serve as case studies to inform the field at large.
“Student support services are essential to students’ progress in college, as resources such as advising, orientation, clubs and activities, and health and wellbeing programs address a wide range of student needs. These institutions are leading the path to improved student outcomes,” says Amelia Parnell, NASPA Vice President for Research and Policy.
According to BMCC Vice President for Student Affairs Marva Craig, “Student support services have been an important component of our mission long before the pandemic. I’m deeply grateful that BMCC has been recognized for the work we do in delivering virtual supports to keep our students engaged and on track. With this generous award, we will expand online services and continue to leverage technology to meet our students’ needs.”
