Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC/CUNY) and the BMCC Foundation has received a $20,000 grant from Time Warner Foundation to provide a new screenwriting fellowship in Fall 2016.
Between five and 10 burgeoning screenwriters — BMCC students or 2016 graduates who have taken a BMCC screenwriting course — will be selected for the program. Applications must be submitted by July 31.
The student fellows will meet for 14 Saturdays, four hours a day to develop a first draft of a feature screenplay or long-form television pilot. The program will begin September 10 and conclude with a gala presentation of readings from the completed scripts, featuring professional actors in January 2017.
Transportation, lunch, books and films, as well as screenwriting software and laptop computers will be provided free. Students who complete the full program will be allowed to keep the laptops.
“Anyone who has taken a scriptwriting course and has an idea for a feature or long-form television program should apply,” said BMCC Media Arts Technology Professor George Stevenson, who is leading the program.
Those interested in applying must provide, among other things, a polished short screenplay; a proposal or treatment for a feature film or long form television series pilot, and a brief statement.
The BMCC grant is in line with Time Warner Foundation’s mission, which seeks innovative and powerful ways to discover, nurture and celebrate the next generation of storytellers.
