Dear BMCC Community,
Our city is quickly seeing an increase in positive cases of COVID-19, due to the Delta and Omicron variants that continue to spread. The rapid increase is cause for concern, especially as many of us plan to gather with families and friends during the holidays.
Reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provide updates that encourage all of us to take necessary precautions to protect ourselves and loved ones – get vaccinated (including the booster); practice social distancing and minimize indoor gatherings; and wear a mask!
During recent weeks, BMCC hosted the NYC.gov Mobile Vaccination Van on campus, and we plan to bring back the van following this proposed schedule:
- Tuesday 12/28; Wednesday 12/29; and Thursday 12/30
- Tuesday, 1/4; Wednesday, 1/5; and Thursday 1/6
- Tuesday, 1/11; Wednesday, 1/12; and Thursday 1/13
The van will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will offer the Pfizer and J&J vaccines, including the booster which is now available to everyone ages 16 and up. Individuals getting their first dose qualify to receive a $100 incentive. The CDC provides FAQs about the COVID-19 vaccination.
I’m sharing this message with all of you to encourage everyone to celebrate the holidays responsibly. It is astounding to see how quickly our city’s entertainment venues and holiday traditions have been altered because of the continuing spread of COVID-19. We all long for the normalcy that we once had prior to the pandemic; however, we must continue to be vigilant and aware of our actions and take responsibility in keeping everyone healthy.
This holiday, please practice social distancing and be mindful of the CDC guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As we prepare to ring in the new year, we must remember that this pandemic is not over. We must continue to support each other during this ever-changing time in our lives.
Let’s remember to stay Panther Strong and move forward with our mission of making our students’ dreams come true through higher education! Continue to visit the Reimagining BMCC website for updates on our campus.
May you all be healthy and happy this holiday season. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Anthony E. Munroe
