BMCC Community,
Traditionally, the winter holiday season is a time to gather with family and friends — and while COVID-19 has disrupted that tradition, there continues to be much to be grateful for.
First, I am personally grateful for the ways our BMCC Community has welcomed me in the midst of what is arguably the most difficult crisis of our lifetime.
We have come far, in the months since I joined the college. We have not only worked together to chart a new strategic direction for the college, we have re-imagined BMCC to give our students the best educational experience possible, while protecting the health and wellbeing of our community.
We have proven that we can rally and meet challenges head-on. Your innovativeness and determination have enabled us to switch to distance learning and the remote delivery of services, as well as provide urgent support to our students through our Panther Pantry, the distribution of Chromebooks and other devices, and more. You have also participated in initiatives that explore ways to help our students with the greatest need, such as Latino male students and others served by our Conexiones grant.
Underlying these efforts, is the BMCC community’s profound ability to accept and adapt to change. I am certain we will have a successful Spring 2021 semester as we continue providing distance learning and services.
Over the Winter Break, I encourage you to reflect, re-energize and practice self-care. BMCC offers services you can find on our Resilience, Health and Wellness website, including mental and physical health resources, financial support, food reserves and more.
You are not alone. We are all part of one community, united in our mission to be a dynamic and committed community of learning.
May you have a wonderful holiday break filled with peace and joy; and may you face the upcoming year with hope and confidence.
