The spring 2021 semester is fast-approaching, and I am writing you to share an announcement regarding one of the key members of the BMCC’s leadership.
After 14 years of serving as Dean of Workforce Development and Continuing Education, Sunil B. Gupta will be leaving BMCC to serve as Vice President of Adult and Continuing Education at LaGuardia Community College. Sunil’s last day at BMCC will be February 5.
As dean, Sunil was responsible for the management of training programs for more than 10,000 adult students in Technology, Allied Health, Business, College Pathway, and Bridge programs, as well as CUNY START, Math Start, CLIP, and other continuing education activities.
Sunil has managed more than $18.2 million in workforce training grants and has received recognition for his efforts in developing innovative career pathways in health care and in specialized information technology-based programs. Sunil has developed dual-enrollment bridge programs connected to NYC CTE High Schools and established a NYS Registered apprenticeship program. He recently launched a Federal Registered apprenticeship program in partnership with Google.
With more than 25 years of experience in higher education, Sunil has strengthened BMCC’s efforts in Workforce Development and has helped our institution build critical partnerships to enhance certification offerings, community programming and build bridge programs to help New Yorkers get back to work, especially during the pandemic.
I want to thank Sunil for his dedicated leadership and service to BMCC. As part of our transition plan, we will continue to explore new and innovative ways to enhance programs and services offered through the Workforce Development and Continuing Education division. I will provide details in the near future.
We know that community colleges are valuable resources for citizens to learn skills that will allow them to obtain better paying jobs to improve their socioeconomic mobility, while also getting the broader education that will help them become successful in their careers.
Our work is just beginning, and I look forward to sharing developments as they become available.
