Dear fellow students,

My name is Nathalia Rodríguez. I was born and raised in the Bronx. I am Dominican as well as French, but I only speak English and Spanish. I am in my second semester at BMCC currently majoring in Criminal Justice. I am hoping to get my associates degree so I could transfer to a 4 year school to further my education.

I am a new member of the NSLS who hopes to be part of more clubs. I am currently running for the position of secretary because it will be an excellent opportunity to try new things. As an individual, I try to get out of my comfort zone and do things that I would never have done before. A year ago today, if you had asked me to run for a position in Student Government, I would have declined without a lot of thought. However, as a secretary, my skills would be valuable to the SGA because I am organized and well written.

Even if running to be part of the Student Government is new to me, I happen to be a quick learner. Though I constantly read this letter over and over, the question I ask myself is why now? What made me change my mind this year and seize the opportunity to run for such a position? What is the real reason behind this, besides trying new things? Quite frankly, I personally like to help others. I like to see others succeed especially when I know how hard we work to do it. Therefore, the reason why SGA should let me be outside of their advice is because I am someone who likes to motivate and help others to accomplish their goals in life.
