PreciaFor the Disciplinary Committee • Voices of Change

Dear Fellow Panthers,

My name is Precia Kalam and I am running for a seat in the Faculty-Student Disciplinary Committee. I am in my third semester at BMCC and majoring in Health Information Technology. I currently hold the secretarial position in my HIT club and have found it to be an amazing experience. I have always valued communication and listening to the concerns my peers share. However, after my time serving the HIT club as secretary, I know I can apply these skills elsewhere.

I am grateful to say I had the opportunity of studying in two different countries, Bangladesh and Malaysia. Thus, I can confidently say that I have experience working with students from all different backgrounds. It opened my eyes to different cultural attitudes and norms which have helped me develop my communication skills and how to adapt to different environments.

I believe I am your best chance at hearing your case and issues. I want to see a BMCC where students and faculty members are more transparent with each other which is only possible if we encourage more discussions and invite students to share their opinions on how we could improve as a committee. I promise if you elect me that I will uphold the highest level of integrity with all of you. I will only look at the facts and make sure your rights are not being violated as a student.

If I get elected, I promise to build connections between students from diverse cultural backgrounds and the faculty. I will represent our students, especially our international students, and work on ways we can build a stronger and fairer committee.
