Academic dishonesty is prohibited by BMCC and The City University of New York. Penalties for academic dishonesty include academic sanctions, such as failing or otherwise reduced grades, and/or disciplinary sanctions, including suspension or expulsion.
The general criteria for determining a violation of the CUNY policy on academic dishonesty are as follows:
- Cheating
- Plagiarism
- Obtaining an unfair advantage
- Falsification of Records or Official Documents
The Academic Integrity Policy contains more specific criteria for determining a violation.
Only the professor assigned to the class can issue a grade for the class. If an incident is reported to Student Conduct and Academic Integrity, there will be an investigation into the allegation. If it is determined that the student did commit an infraction, the substantiated claim will be referred back to the class professor for grading. The professor can decide on one of three outcomes:

Student may be asked to resubmit the assignment

The assignment grade may be reduced

The course grade may be reduced
Additionally, the professor may seek further disciplinary charges if the incident is egregious. If the allegation is not substantiated the student will earn the grade they would have originally received.
