Faculty/Staff Advising Resources

Academic advising at BMCC is more than scheduling classes–it is about teaching and learning.. Students are looking to you for structured guidance during their academic career. Your exchange with students during advisement sessions is integral to their retention and success at the college. Your role is pivotal and you are key to helping students connect to the college. Proper advisement, through the use of DegreeWorks, aids students in reaching their academic, transfer and career goals. We hope that the information on this page will be beneficial to you as you work with your students.

Advisor Toolkit

Are you new to advising? If so, Welcome! There are numerous resources available to assist you in successfully and correctly advising students, most of which can be found in our Advisor Toolkit.

Transfer Advisement

In our role as advisors, we also assist students with transfer information to help them further their academic and career goals. For more in-depth information, see our Transfer Advisement presentation (pdf) and visit our Transfer Resources page.

Career Exploration

As we continue to assist students in achieving their academic and career goals, please utilize and explore professional opportunities using our Career Coach online software. You are also able to refer students to the Center for Career Development where they can meet with a career advisor, search for jobs or sign-up for professional development activities.

Virtual Academic, Career, and Transfer Advisement Training Sessions

This training provides a deeper dive into how to tackle advisement sessions with students. This interactive session is ideal for faculty and advising staff who have working knowledge of DegreeWorks and who are interested in the further development of their academic, career and transfer advisement skills.  View the recording of the spring 2021 training session.  If after watching the training video you have additional questions or want to set up a training session, please contact Karen Ehrlich at kehrlich@bmcc.cuny.edu.

Virtual DegreeWorks Training Sessions

The virtual DegreeWorks training session will provide faculty and staff with an overview of DegreeWorks. DegreeWorks is our online advisement tool and it is important you know how to navigate the system.
Please note: All Degree Works training sessions in spring 2021 have passed.  If you need training on DegreeWorks, please contact Karen Ehrlich at kehrlich@bmcc.cuny.edu.
