The Computer Information Systems (CIS) Department offers programs in Computer Information Systems and Computer Network Technology leading to the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree. Both programs provide students with technical competence in the field of computer information systems and a basic understanding of business organization and the role of computer information systems in support of the management process. Students may prepare for a variety of entry-level positions and for transfer to senior colleges.

In addition, the department offers a program in Computer Science leading to the Associate in Science (A.S.) degree which is intended for the student who is interested in a more theoretical course of study. Students in this program are prepared for transfer to a baccalaureate degree program in computer science.

Internships and Real World Experience

One of the major mentorship/internship opportunities for CIS students is with Bank of New York Mellon. In the past three semesters, the partnership with BNY Mellon provided mentorship to all CIS/CNT/CSC/GIS students plus  paid summer internships, often  leading to full-time jobs.

Extracurricular Activities

The CIS department offers boot camps and hackathons for students to learn more and gain valuable experience. Student clubs meet on Wednesdays from 2-4 p.m. and go over a variety of topics of interest. The department also hosts guest speakers and potential employers in the computer industry as well as specialized networking events.

Every year the CIS department celebrates GIS day, which includes an exhibit of student and faculty projects.

The Computer Programming Club meets on Wednesdays, from 2-4 p.m. The Cybersecurity chapter at the club supports students in their cybersecurity endeavors through workshops, tech talks and cybersecurity projects.

Research

CIS professors conduct their own research and there are opportunities for students to participate.
