Professional Development

BMCC Opportunities

The units under the Faculty Affairs include CETLS, Office of Research, E-Learning, and Internships and Experiential Learning. Each unit provides an aspect of professional development for faculty (full-time and part-time).

Faculty Development Committee

The Faculty Development Committee is a standing committee of the Academic Senate. It discusses and disseminates information and promotes the well-being and the professional development of the faculty, as well as oversees the Faculty Development Grants. For more information on the committee organization please see the BMCC Academic Senate.

Office of Sponsored Programs

The Office of Sponsored Programs offers a wide range of resources and information instrumental to grant proposal development and project management. Their mission is to facilitate the submission of proposals and the administration of funded projects in support of the strategic priorities as outlined in the college’s strategic plan.

Travel authorization and reimbursement

The college encourages faculty and staff to attend professional meetings, scholarly seminars and workshops in their discipline as part of ongoing professional development. Prior approval is necessary from the department chair and the Senior Vice President and Provost. The approvals should be obtained before purchasing any tickets or making travel arrangements. The amount of reimbursement is limited based on the funding sources and eligibility.

CUNY opportunities

The university’s Office of Faculty Affairs works collaboratively with colleagues across the university to ensure that CUNY is a place where faculty are supported and recognized for their essential contributions to our students, the university and their disciplines. The office provides a number of faculty development opportunities and faculty resources.
