BLA Alumni Event

The BMCC Learning Academy (BLA) is a learning community program that allows you to connect easily with other students, faculty and staff. You will design your path to academic success using proven strategies and campus resources as you develop a strong professional relationship with your academic advisor, through one-on-one meetings and weekly success seminars. The BMCC Learning Academy offers you personal and professional development seminars based on your entry point into our program. Students pick a different topic area each semester, please see our selection of seminars.

From entrance into the program to graduation and transfer, the Learning Academy is your home on BMCC’s campus.

Learning Communities

The Learning Academy is excited to offer students several exciting learning community options. These are integrated learning experiences that pair academic courses and seminars, helping you reach your potential and excel as a student. Students enrolled in Learning Academy learning communities will enjoy the support of both faculty and advisors.

Success Seminars

Academic success means more than just showing up for class, and Learning Academy success seminars, taught by advisors, are an excellent way to develop important academic, professional and college success skills with other BLA students. Success seminars offer students academic empowerment, strategies for connecting to faculty, the ability to improve time management and study habits, familiarity with campus resources, career exploration, professional skill development and step-by-step plans for transfer.

Career Exploration and Transfer

BLA’s Careers in Context Initiative offers students the opportunity to visit companies and make connections in their fields. Some of our recent visits include Bloomberg L.P., BBDO, Google, Nickelodeon, HBO, Warner Music and Safe Horizons. In addition, many Learning Academy faculty prefer to take learning beyond the classroom with high-impact experiences, like visits to the Museum of Food and Drink, Gotham Greens, Carnegie Hall and The New Yorker Magazine.

The Learning Academy helps prepare students for transfer through intensive transfer advisement, trips to senior colleges across NYC and transfer application assistance. Our students have been accepted as transfer students at Hunter College, City College, Stony Brook University, SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology, Baruch College, NYU and Columbia University.

Student Support

Your personal advisor will work closely with you to ensure your experience at BMCC is valuable and help you stay on track to graduation. BLA also offers one-on-one peer mentoring with current and former Learning Academy students who understand the ins-and-outs of attending BMCC.
