BMCC Study Abroad Programs

For summer 2022, students may consider CIEE or other CUNY study abroad programs. BMCC study abroad programs will not be offered this summer. CUNY requires that all study abroad participants be vaccinated. 

General Information:

Passport: You must have a valid passport to participate in any international program. Passports must expire at least six months after the end date of your program.

Visa: You may or may not need a visa depending on your country of citizenship and program length. You can learn more by visiting the consulate webpage for the country you want to visit (example: French Consulate in New York). You will receive more guidance after admission to the program.

  • You can select two programs of interest in your BMCC application. You will apply to your first choice, but there will also be a section where you can list a second choice.
  • If you’re unsure which programs will count towards your degree, email your student ID to jlevin@bmcc.cuny.edu for help.

Past Study Abroad Course Offerings

  • Study Abroad Argentina
    Taught in English, this course explores the history and culture of Argentina by focusing on race, religion, homeland, art, family, identity, film, economic development, social and political movements and environment.
  • Study Abroad Brazil
    Taught in English, this course gives students the opportunity to explore the history and culture of Brazil by focusing on the intersections of race, class and gender in both historical and recent experiences of members of the African Diaspora residing there.
  • Study Abroad China
    This course is for students with a beginner’s level of Chinese. Students will language skills and learn about Chinese traditions, cultural patterns, literature and history, as well as contemporary Chinese life and learn about the development of modern China.
  • Study Abroad Costa Rica
    Taught in English, this course explores the history and culture of Costa Rica by focusing on religion, homeland, art, family, identity, film, economic development, social and political movements and environment.
  • Study Abroad Dominican Republic
    Taught in English, this course explores the history and culture of the Dominican Republic by focusing on religion, homeland, art, family, identity, film, economic development, social and political movements and environment.
  • Study Abroad France 
    This course is for intermediate and advanced French language level students. The course will further develop student’s language skills and students will work on selected contemporary themes related to French society and institutions (i.e. the press in France, cinema, food, etc).
  • Study Abroad Greece
    Taught in English, the class is hosted by the Municipality of Kasos and taught in partnership with the School of Political Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The final few days of the program will be spent in Athens where visits to the Acropolis, Agora, and the Acropolis Museum will take place.
  • Study Abroad India
    Taught in English, students will learn first-­hand the very different environmental conditions under which people live and work in a different part of the world, as well as experience the spirit of social entrepreneurs who find innovative ways to solve social problems within a market economy.
  • Study Abroad Italy
    Taught in English, this course is designed to introduce students to the geography, history and politics of Italy. Social and economic issues of Italy are explored, with emphasis on Italy’s pre-Roman and modern-day history.
  • Study Abroad Mexico
    Taught in English, this course explores the history and culture of Oaxaca, Mexico by focusing on religion, homeland, art, family, identity, film, economic development, social and political movements and environment.
  • Study Abroad Montreal/Quebec
    This course is for intermediate and advanced French language level students. Students will enhance their knowledge of French and Francophone language and culture through class meetings, seminars, and an experiential component which includes visits to sites of historic and cultural importance such as Québec City and typical farming centers.
  • Study Abroad Peru
    Taught in English, this course will teach students the rich history and culture of inhabitants of the Andes while comparing and contrasting health systems in Peru and the United States. Students will learn about public hospitals, alternative medicine and private clinics.
  • Study Abroad Spain
    This course is for intermediate and advanced Spanish language level students. Students will enhance their knowledge of Spanish literature, history and culture through class meetings, seminars, and an experiential component which includes visits to sites of historic and cultural importance.
