Mathematics

The BMCC Department of Mathematics offers students an Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Mathematics. The program is designed to provide students with the first two years of study required to major in mathematics at the senior college level. It is also suitable for students who wish to minor in mathematics at the senior college level.

In addition to math requirements for liberal arts majors and elementary calculus and linear algebra, we offer additional math courses such as: ordinary differential equations, advanced calculus, abstract algebra, history of mathematics, statistics, and computer programming.

Careers

The math major provides the foundation for many career paths such as becoming a teacher or professor, a mathematician, a statistician, an actuary, a financial analyst, a research analyst, a software designer and developer, a consultant, an engineer, a financial engineer, a cryptographer, a scientist, and many others.

Regular gatherings of the Math Lounge provide students with a chance to socialize, learn from guest speakers, gather career information and solve puzzles.

Resources and Support

The math lab and free tutoring services provide resources and support for both math majors and students in other fields who are taking math courses.

There are opportunities for student internships as well as participation in research.
