Programmatic Offerings

The following are programs that will be offered at CUNY in The Heights with the understanding that these are subject to change and evolve as we continue to gather input and feedback from the community and strive to create programs and offerings that are responsive to the needs of the communities we serve:

  • Academic credit bearing course offerings, particularly general education courses that can lead to a range of BMCC associate degree programs.
  • Micro-credentials/certificate programs—Based on a needs assessment and input from local industry leaders/employers, BMCC/CITH in partnership with our academic departments and our Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) and Workforce Development division can offer micro-credentials in particular skill sets/short-term certificate programs that can lead to immediate employment and also create stackable credits that lead seamlessly to BMCC career programs in healthcare, for example.
  • BMCC in collaboration with our ACE and Workforce Development division can also offer MathStart at CITH for community residents—a low cost program that will allow candidates for admission to BMCC to eliminate developmental math pre-requisites prior to admission to the college.
  • Early College/College Now offerings—Partner with local high schools to offer students BMCC credit bearing courses/micro credentials that will lead to immediate employment or acceleration to an associate degree modeled after our Early College program with the Manhattan Early College School for Advertising (MECA.
  • Offering ASAP (Accelerated Studies in Associate degree programs) to Washington Heights/Inwood residents  will allow them to earn at least their general education credits towards a BMCC associate degree with the wraparound services provided by ASAP (e.g., assigned academic advisors and free textbooks).
  • BMCC’s Project Impact serves students impacted by the justice system. Project Impact defines justice impacted as any student who has been formerly incarcerated, had a parent or sibling in the system, been involved in foster care and or family court, or been impacted in any other way by the justice system. Project Impact is excited to expand its’ presence to CITH. Project Impact will offer a High School Equivalency Program in collaboration with the Department of Education for students 17-21 years old on the CITH campus. In addition, Project Impact will expand its peer mentor program to support students enrolled in Associate Degree Programs at BMCC’s CITH campus by providing academic, emotional and social support through wraparound services both on and off campus. Please direct all inquiries to Julie Appel, Director of Project Impact at jappel@bmcc.cuny.edu.
  • In partnership with Year Up, we can offer BMCC/CITH students in business career-related degrees the opportunity to participate in the Year Up curriculum that provides internships that lead to employment and wraparound support services, including workshops in professional development.
