New Student Programs

Welcome to the Borough of Manhattan Community College! Congratulations on choosing to Start Here–and Go Anywhere. The New Student Programs team is here to help introduce you to all that BMCC has to offer.

  • First Year Experience (FYE)  is a workshop series that spans the entirety of your first semester covering topics such as goal-setting, time management, career exploration, preparing for academic advisement, money management, and more. Students choose between two versions of the experience: asynchronous (everything online, no live meetings on Zoom) or synchronous (everything online, weekly live meetings on Zoom that last 50-minutes). Past participants who have completed this program go on to have higher GPAs, earn more credits, and are more likely to successfully transfer and/or graduate.

  • Panther Getting Prepared to Start (GPS) New Student Orientation. New Student Orientation focuses on preparing new students to succeed in their first semester at BMCC and beyond. Orientation will introduce you to the support services, programs, departments, faculty, and staff that are a part of the BMCC community. As a completely online experience, Panther GPS New Student Orientation can be completed anytime, anywhere as long as you have an internet connection. Online Panther GPS New Student Orientation is a program hosted on YouTube and Blackboard.

Completing Online Panther GPS New Student Orientation is a necessary step in order to register for courses. You can complete orientation before or after meeting with an academic advisor from the Academic Advisement & Transfer Center. Access the Panther GPS New Student Orientation on YouTube.

  • S.T.A.R. Ambassadors are students who have completed their first semester at BMCC and would like to help other new students. The S.T.A.R. Ambassadors play a role in facilitating Panther GPS Online, F.Y.E., and many of the other programs, services, and events that the New Student Programs office offers. For more information about the S.T.A.R. Ambassador program, e-mail newstudentprograms@bmcc.cuny.edu.

  • Panther Partners is a nationally recognized program designed to connect, support, and empower first-generation college students. Student Panther Partners are paired with faculty and/or staff members, who are also first generation college students, and who can answer questions, provide resources, and help you, the student, make the most of your college experience.

First, meet your New Student Programs team.
