CUNY Proficiency Requirements
The City University of New York (CUNY) requires that all students demonstrate proficiency in English and Math by meeting CUNY’s proficiency requirements or through eligible college transfer credit.

Students deemed as potential English as a Second Language (ESL) who do not meet CUNY’s English proficiency requirements including those who do not meet CUNY’s English proficiency index benchmark score are assessed via the ESL Diagnostic Assessment (ESLD).
