English as a Second Language (ESL) Placement

English as a second language (ESL) students who do not meet CUNY’s English proficiency requirements are assessed via the ESL Diagnostic Assessment (ESLD).

ESLD Preparation

Review the ESLD Student Handbook for the following information:

  1. What is the ESLD?
  2. Why were you notified to take the ESLD?
  3. Important next steps and procedures
  4. The format of the ESLD
  5. An example of the ESLD and how your response is evaluated

Review practice exercises to prepare for the ESLD.

Students are also required to review CUNY’s Academic Integrity policy which prohibits all forms of academic dishonesty with penalties including suspension or expulsion from CUNY. For questions please email testingoffice@bmcc.cuny.edu
